RESOLUTION NO. 94-�Z
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 16-21, 1994, AS "NATIONAL
PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL WEEK," AND MAY 18, 1994, AS
"POLICE MEMORIAL DAY" IN THE CITY OF REDDING.
WHEREAS, the week of May 16 through 21, 1994, has been
designated "National Peace Officers' Week," and Wednesday,
May 18, 1994, as "Police Memorial Day" by both an Act of Congress
and Presidential Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, this week has been set aside to commemorate the
over 30,000 law enforcement officers slain in the line of duty
during the course of American history; and
WHEREAS, in 1991 California ranked second in the nation with
10 peace officers killed; in 1992 over 100 officers were killed
nationwide, an average of one officer killed every two and one-
half days; and in 1993 69 officers were killed nationwide, with
eight California officers being feloniously killed; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the
services of the Redding Police Department, the Shasta County
Sheriff ' s Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as well
as the many state and federal agencies that make up the law
enforcement community in Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redding \
hereby proclaims the week of May 16 through 20, 1994, as

"National Peace Officers' Memorial Week," and Wednesday, May 18,
1994, as "Police Memorial Day" in the City of Redding;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents
and civic organizations to salute this City' s dedicated law
enforcement professionals, and directs that all City of Redding
flags be flown at half-mast on Wednesday, May 18, 1994, in honor
of the police officers killed in the line of duty during 1993 .
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
introduced, read, and adopted at a regular meeting of the City
Council on the 3rd day of MaY , 1994, by the following vote:
