A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING DECLARING
OCTOBER 10, 1994, AS "WOMEN'S REFUGE DAY"
WHEREAS, October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and
in 1993, domestic violence calls to the Redding Police Department increased
by 19%; and
WHEREAS, Shasta County Women' s Refuge is the only agency in Shasta
County to provide services, resources, support and direction to enable women
and their children to escape the cycle of domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, Shasta County Women' s Refuge has served more than 15, 000
families since its incorporation in 1979, with services including:
*24 hour emergency shelter and Crisis Line
*Crisis counseling - individual, children and group
*Business center accessible to walk-in clients
*Emergency food, clothing and transportation
*Emergency response to calls from law enforcement
*Hospital emergency room assistance
*Court and social service advocacy & legal assistance
*Community resource and referral information
*Household establishment assistance
*Community education; and
WHEREAS, on October 10, 1994, the Shasta County Women' s Refuge will
celebrate its fifteenth anniversary of incorporation as a private, non-profit
agency serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Redding proclaims October 10, 1994, as "Women' s Refuge Day" , and
congratulates the staff and Board of Directors of the Shasta County Women' s
Refuge for a job well done.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 4th
day of October, 1994, and was duly adopted at said meeting by the following
vote:
