RESOLUTION NO. 95- 2/�
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF REDDING PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 1-7, 1995, AS
"PUBLIC POWER WEEK."
WHEREAS, the City of Redding has owned and controlled its own Electric Utility
since 1921, and is proud of its choice to operate a community-owned, not-for-profit Electric
Utility; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Redding are both consumers and owners of the City's
public power system, and have a direct say in utility operations and policies; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redding Electric Utility provides our homes, businesses,
farms, social services, and local governmental agencies with reliable, efficient, and cost-
effective electricity by employing sound business practices designed to ensure the best
possible service at the lowest possible rates; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redding Electric Utility is a valuable community asset and
contributes substantially to the well-being of local citizens through energy efficiency,
customer service, environmental protection, economic development, and safety awareness;
and
WHEREAS, the City's public power system operates without profit, allowing all
benefits to flow entirely to our community and its citizens and consumers; and
WHEREAS, not-for-profit rates and citizen participation combine to ensure that the
City of Redding operates in the public interest; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redding is one of a community of 2,000 public power
systems in the United States that, through consumer-ownership, ensure cost-cutting
competition in the electric utility industry to the benefit of electricity consumers everywhere;
and
WHEREAS, the American Public Power Association initiated Public Power Week in
1987, and it has proven a successful means to educate this community's consumers and the �
general public about public power's public service mission and community betterment goals;
and �
WHEREAS, it is crucial to our local economy that our community understand the ��
value of our public power system, especially during this time when investor-owned electric �

utilities have organized a concerted national campaign against public power and are distorting �
and misrepresenting the record and operations of local publicly owned electric utilities; �

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the week of October 1-7,
1995, be desigriated "Public Power Week" in Redding, to honor the City of Redding Electric
Utility, its consumer-owners, policy makers, and employees, who work together to provide
the best possible electric service to our community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that our community join hands with other public
power communities across the nation and celebrate the benefits of public power for our local
and national progress.
I HEREBY CERTIFI' that the foregoing Resolution was introduced, read, and
adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council on the �9th day of September, 1995, by
the following vote:
