HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 95-201 - Commending the Redding Rebels & Roger Dawes on Winning the 1995 AMateur Softball Assoc Women's Major Fastpitch National Championship � • RESOLUTION NO. 95-201 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING COMII�NDING THE REDDING REBELS SOFTBALL TEAM AND ROGER DAWES ON WINNING TI� 1995 AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION WOMEN'S MAJOR FASTPITCH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. WI�REAS, the City of Redding wishes to give due recognition and acclamation to the achievements of the Redding Rebels Softball Team, and to Roger Dawes who has been the Head Coach, Manager, and Sponsor of the Team since its inception in 1977; and WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Roger Dawes include Coach of the Redding Rebels in 12 Amateur Softball Association National Championships; Coach of the USA/International All-Star Team to a Gold Medal win of the Nicchi Japan Cup in 1986; Head Coach of the USA Team at the South Pacific Classic held in New Zealand in 1988; First Assistant Coach for the USA Warld Championship Team that won the Gold Medal in Normal, Illinois, in 1990; and Head Coach for the 1990 and 1991 Olympic Sports Festivals; he also trained the 1993 Swiss National Softball Team for the 1993 European Cup; and WI�REAS, the Redding Rebels Team completed the 1995 softball season with a record of 36 wins and only 4losses; and WHEREAS, the Redding Rebels Team climaxed the 1995 season by winning its tlurd consecutive Amateur Softball Association Women's Major Fastpitch National Championship in Decatur, Illinois, after coming from behind in the losers bracket by twice beating a team from southern California, and finishing tournament play at 7-1; and WIIEREAS, eight players from the Redding Rebels Team are being considered for the 1996 Olympic USA Team; NOW, THEREFORE,IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council commends the success and sportsmanship of the players, coaches, and staff of the Redding Rebels Softball Team, and its entire organization. They bring fame plus tourism revenue to the Redding area, and are an example of outstanding achievement by citizens in our community. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read, and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council on the Sth day of September, 1995, by the following vote: AYES: COLTNCII.MEMBERS: P.
