HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 95-226 - Proclaiming October 1995 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the COR � • • RESOLUTION NO. 95- Z� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 1995 AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH IN THE CITY OF REDDING. WHEREAS, the tragedy of domestic violence affects every community, city, and county in California and the nation, and touches lives regardless of cultural, ethnic, religious, or socioeconomic status; and WHEREAS, the level of violence and the number of domestic violence victims and reports of abuse continue to rise; and WHEREAS, Shasta County had 1,979 confirmed domestic violence incidents in 1994, with 1,380 confirmed reports within the jurisdiction of the City of Redding; and WHEREAS, the tragedy of domestic violence is even larger than reports would indicate because many victims are too fearful or embarrassed to make a report or ask for intervention; and WHEREAS, collaboration among professionals, families, volunteers, and local leaders and policy-makers can help reduce domestic violence by educating communities and citizens and encouraging them to report all cases of abuse; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding urges all residents and agencies in the City to work together toward the reduction of domestic violence by increasing education, information, awareness, and �� vigilance in all matters pertaining to reporting and resolving cases of domestic violence abuse. �j �� � • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges the elected � representatives of this area from the state legislatures and the federal government to �v pursue full funding and support of social agencies that receive, investigate, and respond �` to reports to domestic violence abuse. � . , � ' � • Resolution No. 95- ?26 I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution proclaiming October 1995 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Redding was introduced, read, and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council on the 17th day of October, 1995, by the following vote: AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: R.
