A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDDING AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF LOCAL
LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS FROM THE
BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE.
WHEREAS, as a result of Congressional action in passing the fiscal year 1996 omnibus
Appropriations Act, the Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance was authorized to make funds available to
units of local government under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants program; and
WHEREAS, in June of 1996 the City of Redding was informed that we were eligible for a
block grant award of$102,975 if the City matched those funds with a 10% local cash match; and
WHEREAS, on October 1, 1996, the City Council approved the Police Department's plan to
utilize state funding available under AB3229, as well as the federal block grant funding, for
implementation of a mobile data system which would increase the efficiency of our officers and the
dispatch personnel at SHASCOM; and
WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Police Department that the City Council adopt a
budget resolution appropriating the 10% matching funds of $11,442 from the General Fund reserve,
and authorize the City Manager to sign the federal grant award;
BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council concurs with said recommendation, and authorizes
(1) the City Manager to sign the federal block grant award and (2) the appropriation of $11,442 from
the General Fund reserve.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read and adopted at a
regular meeting of the City Council on the 19th day of November , 1996, by the following vote:
