RESOLUTION NO. 97-`
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDDING AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF THREE TRUCKS
FOR THE SOLID WASTE UTILITY.
WIEEREAS:
A. In April 1997 the Solid Waste Utility was authorized by Council to purchase two
trucks—an automated front-loader and an automated side-loader—from Oakland Truck
Center; and because of a large backlog of orders these trucks have not yet been delivered.
B. The Solid Waste Utility is in need of three additional trucks—one automated side-loader
and two automated side-loaders, one of which is to replace a vehicle destroyed by fire.
C. Manufacturer's prices have increased $1,500 to $2,500 per vehicle since the April bid
award; however, the Oakland Truck Center has agreed to honor the price given to the City
in April 1997 if the City will `piggyback' the three additional trucks onto the April 1997
order. Staff has queried other vendors for price changes since April 1997 and none could
offer a better price.
D. In addition to a cost savings of $4,500 to $7,500, by `piggybacking' the three additional
trucks onto the previous award of bid, the Solid Waste Utility could accept delivery of all
five trucks as early as November 1997.
E. With approval of the accompanying budget resolution, funds are available to purchase the
three additional trucks.
P. At the request of the City Manager and upon approval by the City Council, Redding
Municipal Code Section 4.20.080 A.4. authorizes dispensing with the bidding process
when the goods or services proposed to be purchased do not constitute a public works
project. The proposed purchase does not constitute a public works project.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redding i
that:
