A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING SUPPORTING
THE PURCHASE AND CONTINUED OPERATION OF SIMPSON PAPER COMPANY'S
SHASTA MILL
WHEREAS, the Simpson Paper Company employs 550 area residents at its Shasta Mill; and
WHEREAS, the Company has announced its intent to sell the Shasta Mill, as well as plants in
Texas and Vermont; and
WHEREAS, closure of the Mill would create a significant economic loss to the entire region; and
WHEREAS, community support could be a significant factor for a prospective buyer;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding
welcomes a new owner of the Simpson Paper Company Shasta Mill and pledges support for the
upgrading and continued operation of the facility.
I HEREBY CERTIFI' that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 16�' day of September 1997, and was
adopted at said meeting by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: R. Anderson, Kehoe, McGeorge and Murray
NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COIINCIL MEMBERS: P. Anderson
