HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 97-192 - Approving Continuation of the Law Enforcement & Education Partnership Program between the RPD and Enterprise, Redding ES and SUHSD i^ � � RESOLUTION NO. 97- /9 � A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING APPROVING THE CONTINUATION OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM BETWEEN THE REDDING POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE ENTERPRISE AND REDDING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND THE SI�ASTA iJ1vION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT. WHEREAS, it has been demonstrated that the dedication of police officers to school district campuses is an effective partnership to work toward the elimination of truancy, and to educate parents on gang member recognition and early warning signs of narcotic use and other critical areas affecting school district campuses; and WHEREAS, the City Council, on January 2 and November 5, 1996, by Resolution Nos. 96-10 and 96-202 respectively, approved the implementation and funding for a Law Enforcement and Education Partnership Program ("Program") between the Redding Police Department, the Enterprise and Redding Elementary School Districts, and the Shasta Union High School District to share the cost of having a uniformed police officer on the school districts' campuses; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Police Department and the Enterprise and Redding Elementary School Districts and the Shasta Union High School District that the Program be ongoing; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council that SUBJECT TO the availability of funding: 1. The Redding Police Department is authorized to continue dedicating two full- time police officers—one for the Enterprise and Redding Elementary School � Districts and one for the Shasta Union High School District—for the purposes of �� dealing with truancy, violence, gangs, racism, and other safe school issues. 1� 2. The Program, which started m the 1996/97 school year, shall contmue m each � School District each successive regular school year, exclusive of stuniner vacations, until a 30-day written notice to terminate the program is given by the � Chief of Police or the respective School District Superintendent. . ... , ..._.... _ _. ,_.{. , ...,�::.. ; •,;f:::�::• . „ . ...�.... ...:....�....�•...� t..�+...�.;. �::� !...� :.. i ♦ � � The Chief of Police is authorized, on behalf of the City of Redding, to enter into letter agreements with the Enterprise and Redding Elementary School Districts and the Shasta Union High School District (to be signed by each party) setting forth the terms and conditions of the Program, with the financial contribution and payment thereof by each School District to be negotiated by the Chief of Police and the respective School District Superintendents. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read, and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council on the 4th day of November, 1997, by the following vote: AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: R.
