HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 97-205 - Commending & Congratulating Shasta County Superior Ct Judge Steven E Jahr as he is name "Jurist of the Year" • • RESOLUT[ON NO. 97- �C��� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SHASTA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE STEVEN E. JAHR AS HE IS NAMED "JURiST OF THE YEAR" WHEREAS, Shasta County Superior Court Judge Steven E. Jahr has been selected "Jurist of the Year"by the California State Judicial Council, marking the first occasion the Judicial Council has so honored a judge in Shasta County since inception of the award; and WHEREAS, the selection of Judge Jahr as the recipient of this prestigious award - the highest award presented to a judge in California- is due to his extraordinary dedication to the highest , principles of the administration of justice; and W HEREAS, Judge Jahr's uncommon diligence, integrity and devotion to the legal system are characteristics which ensured his being chosen as recipient of the "Jurist of the Year" award from approximately 1,600 judges throughout California; and W H EREAS,Judge Jahr has been a member of the judiciary since 1986, serving on the Justice and Municipal Courts before his appointment to the Superior Court by Governor Pete Wilson in 1991; and WHEREAS,Judge Jahr, in addition to carrying a full caseload as Superior Court Judge, also serves as Chair of the Trial Court Budget Commission working toward implementation of the Court Funding Law which will save Sl�asta County approximately $700,000 in the next fiscal year, and also plays an active role in many judicial activities such as: *Executive Board, California Judges Association, 1990-1993 *Civil Law and Procedure Committee, California Judges Association, 1988-present *Municipal and Justice Courts Institute Planning Committee, 1989 *Trial Court Budget Commission, 1993-present *Chair, Trial Court Budget Commission, 1997 *Chair, Task Force on Trial Court Funding, 1996 *CJER Planning Com►nittee, Civil Proceedings Benchbook, 1992 *Faculty of CJER Institutes: Civil Law and Procedure Institute, l 989; Municipal and Justice Courts Institute, 1988-1990 � *Faculty of Continuing Judicial Studies Program, 1990, 1991, 1996 *Faculty, California Judicial College, 1994-1997; and � +� WHEREAS, Judge Jahr's optimism, enthusiasm, tenacious attitude, and unique �� administrative abilities have earned him the respect of colleagues on both local and statewide levels; � and � WHEREAS, Judge Jahr worked diligently to guarantee that Shasta County Courts, though faced with limited financial and stat�ing resources, offer the best judicial services possible promoting a positive public perception of the judicial system. ��.,;.;,i�•i�:::� -:�--,�::��::. ... ._ . ._., ...� . _ ' ' i i i a .• f ' ' ... ... ... •... •..!•..'•...��...� •._�i...�.x. f S.}{...• .{. �..� ' f NOW THER�.rORE • , , BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby commends and congratulates Shasta County Superior Court Judge Steven E.
