A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING PROCLAIMING JULY 5, 1998, AS KING CENTER-COMMUNITY HERITAGE REUNION DAY IN REDDING WHEREAS, on April 15, 1968, Byron Robertson and Katherine Brooks appeared before the Redding City Council representing the residents of the Neighborhood Facility Primary Service Area and requested that Sheridan Park be renamed as a memorial to the late Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.; and WHEREAS, the Martin Luther King Jr., Memorial Park and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Center were dedicated to the memory of this great leader on October 11, 1968, and the dedication ceremony was attended by local and national dignitaries; and WHEREAS, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center will celebrate its 30th Anniversary and Community Heritage Reunion on July 5, 1998; and WHEREAS, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Center was completed in January, 1969, with the grand opening on April 4, 1969; and WHEREAS, the Anniversary/Heritage Reunion Committee, in honor of this great occasion, will proudly sponsor a three day celebration at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center and Park with activities including contests, a barbeque, a reunion and the presentation of a social awards program; and WHEREAS, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center is a community-oriented service facility which has served the citizens and the City of Redding continuously for the past 30 years. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby commends the Martin Luther King Jr., Memorial Center and Park for its service as a / multipurpose neighborhood center, and congratulates the Center as it celebrates 30 years of .� community service to all the citizens of Redding.
