HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 99-146 - A Reso Supporting Census 2000 & Proclaiming 04-01-2000 as Census Day � � RESOLUTION NO. 99-�1p A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ItEDDING SUPPORTING CENSUS 2000 AND PROCLAIMING APR1L 1, 2000,AS "CENSUS DAY" WHEREAS, the Census is vital to our community in that it determines the apportionment of seats in the United States House of Representatives and our state's legislature,as well as providing a basis for allocating billions of federal, state, and local dollars for social and other programs; and W HEREAS,the Census is also used to assist in the determination for the location of schools, day care centers, senior citizen centers, hospitals and other facilities and is used to make decisions concerning business growth and jobs; and WHEREAS, Census information is confidential and federal law prohibits any public or private agency frorrt gaining access to confidential Census data; and WHEREAS, in Redding we are committed to a full and accurate Census count - placing special emphasis on enumerating members of population groups traditionally undercounted. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby declares Census 2000 a top priority and proclaims April 1, 2000, as "Census Day" and encourages residents to participate in the census. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council ofthe City ofRedding on the 16th day ofNovember, 1999, and was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote: Ayes: Council Members: cibula, McGeorge, Pohlmeyer and Anderson Noes: Council Members: None Absent: Council Members: xight Abstain: Council Members: None �C���."u,.,z.�,� BERT C.
