HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 99-134 - Proclaiming Oct 23 through 31, 1999 as Red Ribbon Week � � RESOLUTION NO. 99- /,3 A RESOLUTLON OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 23 THROUGH 31, 1999, AS "RED RIBBON WEEK" WHEREAS, Californians for Drug-Free Youth, Inc., sponsored the first statewide "Red Ribbon Campaign" in 1986, and the National Federation of Parents for Drug-Free Youth, Inc., sponsored the first nationwide campaign in 1988, with the red ribbon symbolizing commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and a visible commitment toward creating a Drug-Free America; and, WHEREAS, the 1999 theme of the Shasta County Red Ribbon Campaign is "Drug Free Starts With Me,"and thousands will demonstrate their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle by wearing and displaying red ribbons during this week-long campaign; and WH_EREAS, recent reports indicate that drug use and abuse begin at an earlier age, and the challenge to give our youth the chance to be free of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs has never been greater; and W H EREAS,it is important that the entire community-homes,schools,churches,businesses, and governmental agencies - unite to organize support, and promote community awareness of tobacco, alcohol and other drug problems and encourage drug-free choices. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby declares October 23 through 31, 1999, as "RED RIBBON WEEK," and encourages citizens to participate in drug prevention activities making a visible statement that we are firmly committed to a drug-free and alcohol abuse-free community. I HEREBY CERTiFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 19th day of October, 1999, and was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote: Ayes: Council Members: Cibula, Kight, McGeorge, Pohlmeyer and Anderson Noes: Council Members: None Absent: Council Members: None Abstain: Council Members: None �� .�,�'/� ��i��.-��,-.� , � ��BERT C.
