RESOLUTION NO. 99-�Q
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 9-15, 1999 AS "NATIONAL POLICE
OFFICERS' MEMORIAL WEEK," AND MAY 13, 1999, AS "POLICE MEMORIAL
DAY" IN THE CITY OF REDDING.
WHEREAS, the week of May 9 through 15, 1999, has been designated "National Police
Officers' Week," by both an Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, this week has been set aside to commemorate the over 14,000 law enforcement
officers slain in the line of duty during the course of American history; and
WHEREAS, in 1998, 166 officers were killed nationwide, with seventeen (17) California
officers being feloniously killed; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the Redding Police
Department, the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as
well as the many county, state and federal agencies that make up the law enforcement community
in Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redding hereby proclaims the week of
May 9 through 15, 1999, as "National Police Officers' Memorial Week," and Thursday, May 13,
1999 as "Police Memorial Day" in the City of Redding;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic organizations to
salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by attending the Shasta County Peace
Officers Memorial, and directs that all City of Redding flags be flown at half-mast on Thursday,
May 13, 1999, in honor of the police officers killed in the line of duty during 1998.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced, read, and adopted at a
regular meeting of the City Council on the 2oth day ofApril , 1999, by the following vote:
