City Council, Special Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Murray with the following Council Members
present: Dickerson, Mathena, Pohlmeyer, and Stegall.

Also present were City Manager Warren, Assistant City Manager Starman, Deputy City
Manager Bachman, Personnel Director Johnson, and City Attorney Duvernay.
At the hour of 6:00 p.m., Mayor Murray announced that the City Council would adjourn to
closed session to discuss the following:

CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - EXISTING LITIGATION

At the hour of 7 :05 p.m., Mayor Murray reconvened the Special Meeting to open session and
advised that there was no reportable action taken with the exception of the item regarding
existing litigation. With respect to the matter regarding existing litigation Scott v. City of
Redding, he reported that the City Council, by unanimous vote, has accepted an offer of
settlement. The settlement will involve total payment by the City in the amount of $275,000.
He added that $125,000 is to offset medical and legal costs incurred by the plaintiff and
$150,000 will be earmarked to establish a special needs trust to provide a lifetime annuity
for the plaintiff. He noted that Mr. Scott was an innocent bystander who sustained major
injuries when struck by a motorcycle that lost control on Redwood Boulevard near
Caterpillar Drive on August 6, 2002.
There being no further business, at the hour of7 :08 p.m., Mayor Murray declared the meeting
adjourned. .
