The purpose of the action is to seek a determination from the Superior Court as to the constitutionality of Senate Bill 402 (SB 402), a State law which became effective on January 1, 2001. SB 402 established the right of firefighters and law enforcement officers to force the City into binding arbitration over economic issues, including salaries and benefits. The City Council believes that the new law is unconstitutional because it delegates to a private person the power to perform municipal economic functions in violation of Article XI, Section ll(a) of the State Constitution. I ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, at the hour of 7:35 a.m., Mayor McGeorge declared the meeting adjourned. APPROVED ATTEST: ~'~r City Clerk I 07/09/2001
