A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING MAY 7, 2018, AS "CALIFORNIA PEACE OFFICERS'
MEMORIAL DAY"; MAY 10, 2018,AS "SHASTA COUNTY PEACE OFFICERS'
MEMORIAL DAY"; AND MAY 13 THROUGH MAY 19, 2018, AS "NATIONAL
POLICE WEEK" IN THE CITY OF REDDING
WHEREAS, May 7, 2018, has been designated by the California State Legislature as California
Peace Officers' Memorial Day; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 13 through May 19, 2018, has been designated "National Police
Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, there were 134 line of duty deaths nationwide, 8 of which were in
California; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the Redding Police
Department, the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as well as the
many county, state and federal agencies that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby
proclaims May 7, 2018, as "California Peace Officers' Memorial Day;" Thursday, May 10, 2018, as
"Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial Day;" and May 13 through 19, 2018, as "National Police
Memorial Week" in the City of Redding;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic organizations to
salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by attending the Shasta County Peace Officers'
Memorial, and directs that all City of Redding flags be flown at half-staff on Thursday, May 10, 2018, in
honor of the peace officers killed in the line of duty during 2017.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Redding City Council on the 3rd day of April, 2018,by the following vote:

NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Weaver
