A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 1987-142 AND ESTABLISHING
PROCEDURES FOR BOARDS, COMMISSIONS, AND COMMITTEES
RELATIVE TO APPOINTMENTS, AS WELL AS PUBLIC
NOTIFICATION OF UPCOMING AND UNSCHEDULED VACANCIES
WHEREAS, the City of Redding has established by Ordinance various commissions to
advise the City Council regarding various matters; and
WHEREAS, on May 5, 1987, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 1987-142
establishing a procedure by which commission vacancies and appointments will be made aware to
the public; and
WHEREAS, the procedure may be amended from time to time in order to meet both
legislative and City Council requirements.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED THAT:
1. Resolution No. 1987-142 is hereby rescinded.
2. The City of Redding shall follow the requirements as set forth in the California
Government Code, i.e., the Maddy Act (Sections 54972-54974), relative to
appointments to Boards, Commissions, and Committees, as well as public
notification of upcoming and unscheduled vacancies.
3. Applications for the City's various Boards, Commissions, and Committees shall be
submitted and retained by the City Clerk's office for a two-year period. When term
expirations and vacancies occur, the City Clerk shall provide the Mayor with copies
of associated applications on file. The Mayor shall review the applications and
make a recommendation to the City Council for its consideration and approval.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced and adopted at a
regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 5th day of December, 2017, by
the following vote:
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: McElvain, Sullivan,Weaver, Winter, & Schreder
NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
ABSTAIN: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
