HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2000-089 - Rodeo Assoc. Drill Team RESOLUTION NO. 2000- 89 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE REDDING RODEO ASSOCIATION DRILL TEAM WHEREAS: A. The Redding Rodeo Association Drill Team consists of sixteen riders. The team performs at rodeos and demonstrates high speed precision maneuvers on horseback. This team has been electrifying rodeo fans since it was first formed in 1942; and, B. The Redding Rodeo Association Drill Team, together with many non-drill team members of the Redding Rodeo Association, performs a variety of services to the community, such as: Special Kids Day during Rodeo Week, when 300 specially challenged children become cowboys and cowgirls for a day; emergency relief to livestock for residents caught in the Jones Fire last October; and their availability at any time to assist the City of Redding in any emergency that might arise; and, C. In addition to performing for rodeo fans and promoting horsemanship, the Redding Rodeo Association Drill Team also enters competitions as a drill team and as a color guard. This team won first place in the Western States Drill Team Competition in Reno, Nevada, last June 1999, and has for the last two years won first place in the Color Guard competition at the Grand Nationals Rodeo at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, California; and D. The Redding Rodeo Association Drill Team was recently selected from ninety teams internationally as one of twenty drill teams to compete in the EquiDance 2000 Drill Team Competition at the Calgary Stampede rodeo in Calgary, Canada, this coming July; and, E. The Redding Rodeo Association Drill Team, in its accomplishments, has brought great pride to the City of Redding, as well as to the entire County of Shasta. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Redding City Council recognizes and applauds the accomplishments of the Redding Rodeo Association Drill Team, and wishes the Redding Rodeo Association Drill Team the greatest of success as it competes in the international EquiDance 2000 Drill Team Competition at the Calgary Stampede.
