RESOLUTION NO. 2000- '
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDDING PROCLAIMING MAY 5 THROUGH MAY 12, 2000
AS "CALIFORNIA PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL WEEK";
MAY 11, 2000 AS "POLICE MEMORIAL DAY"; AND MAY 14
THROUGH MAY 20, 2000 AS "NATIONAL POLICE
OFFICERS' WEEK" IN THE CITY OF REDDING.
WHEREAS, the week of May 5 through 12, 2000 has been designated
California Peace Officers' Memorial Week; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 14 through May 20, 2000 has been designated
"National Police Officers' Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential
Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, in 1999, 140 officers were killed nationwide, with seven
California officers being feloniously killed; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the
Redding Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and the
Anderson Police Department, as well as the many county, state and federal
agencies that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redding hereby
proclaims the week of May 5 through 12, 2000 as "California Peace Officers'
Memorial Week"; Thursday, May 11, 2000 as "Police Memorial Day"; and May 14
through 20, 2000 as "National Police Officers' Memorial Week" in the City of
Redding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic
organizations to salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by
attending the Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial, and directs that all City of

Redding flags be flown at half-mast on Thursday, May 11, 2000 in honor of the
police officers killed in the line of duty during 1999.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read and
adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council on the 4th day of April , 2000 by
the following vote:
