HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2001-166 - Vehicle Abatement Program RESOLUTION NO. 2001 - /Colo A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING EXTENDING THE COLLECTION OF FEES FOR THE SHASTA COUNTY ABANDONED VEHICLE ABATEMENT PROGRAM TO MAY 1, 2012, PURSUANT TO VEHICLE CODE §§ 9250.7 AND 22710. WHEREAS: A. Effective January 1992, California Vehicle Code §§ 9250.7 and 22710 provided for increased vehicle registration fees in order to establish abandoned vehicle abatement programs at local levels. B. On August 4, 1992,the Redding City Council amended Redding Municipal Code Chapter 9.08, giving the Police Department the responsibility of abating all abandoned vehicles in the City. Council also authorized the Police Department to enter into a Service Authority Agreement with the County of Shasta and the City of Anderson. The agreement imposes a service fee of one dollar ($1) on vehicles registered to an owner with an address in the County, including incorporated cities. C. The service fee,without further action,will expire on May 1, 2002,which is ten years from the commencement date of actual collections in Shasta County and the incorporated cities. D. Legislation has been enacted,effective January 1,2002,amending Vehicle Code§§9250.7 and 22710 to allow the fee imposed by the Shasta County Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Service Authority to be extended in increments ofup to 10 years each if the board of supervisors of the county by a two-thirds vote, and a majority of the cities having a majority of the incorporated population within the county, adopt resolutions authorizing the extension of the fee collection. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Redding City Council hereby authorizes the Shasta County Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Service Authority to extend the collection of fees for the Abandoned Vehicle Program to May 1, 2012, pursuant to Vehicle Code §§ 9250.7 and 22710.
