HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2001-142 - Respect of all Ethnic Cultures R ELUTION NO. 2001- /12— A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING, IN CONCERT WITH THE SHASTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS,AND THE CITY COUNCILS OF ANDERSON AND SHASTA LAKE, ENCOURAGING CONTINUED TOLERANCE AND RESPECT FOR ALL ETHNIC CULTURES WHEREAS, the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania shocked and saddened our entire nation; and WHEREAS, across America, citizens of all religious and ethnic backgrounds have come together to denounce the horrific attacks and to mourn the loss of thousands of innocent people; and WHEREAS, our citizens must remember that the physical appearance of many loyal Americans may be different, but these people are our neighbors and friends and we will continue to live and work together in peace and harmony; and WHEREAS, we shall continue to exhibit tolerance and refrain from discrimination or violence against our fellow Americans who join us in defense of our liberties, firm in the knowledge that these acts were perpetrated by terrorists and criminals; and WHEREAS, as Americans we must direct our combined efforts to protect the rights and freedoms of ALL the citizens of our great country, as well as those of other free nations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redding joins with the Shasta County Board of Supervisors, and the City Councils of Anderson and Shasta Lake, and all civilized people around the world in condemning the September 11`h attacks, and urging respect for all ethnic groups and recognizing their contributions to our society. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redding joins the Shasta County Board of Supervisors, and the City Councils of Anderson and Shasta Lake in expressing confidence for the continued demonstration of tolerance, acceptance and respect for people of all ethnic groups by the citizens of this community.
