HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2001-072 - Veterans Home Facility RESOLUTION NO. 2001- '7 2- A A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CALIFORNIA STATE VETERANS' HOME FACILITY IN SHASTA COUNTY WHEREAS,according to local Veteran representatives,over 200,000 Veterans currently reside within the 13 northern most counties of the State of California; and WHEREAS, the City Council and the citizens of the City of Redding have great admiration and the utmost gratitude for all the local men and women who have selflessly served their country and this community in the armed forces, in order to protect and preserve the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans; and WHEREAS, these same Veterans and their families are deserving of rehabilitative, residential, and medical care and services in proximity to their place of residence; and WHEREAS, the California Department of Veterans' Affairs, through its California Veterans' Home facilities, is charged with providing such care and services to aged and/or disabled Veterans, their spouses, dependants, and survivors; and WHEREAS, the closest California Veterans' Home facility is located in Yountville, Napa County, California, and WHEREAS, legislation has been introduced in the California State Senate by Senator Maurice Johannessen,in the form of SB 4,authorizing the development of a California Veterans'Home in Shasta County. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding wishes to express its strong support for the development of a California Veterans'Home in Shasta County within the most expeditious time frame possible. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 1st day of May 2001, and was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote: AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Cibula, Pohlmeyer, Stegall and McGeorge NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Kight ABSTAIN: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None • - DAVID L.
