HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2001-048 - Just Say No ZESOLUTION NO. 2001- 9.s- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF APRIL 2 THROUGH APRIL 6, 2001, AS "JUST SAY NO"/YOUTH POWER WEEK WHEREAS, the use of illegal drugs continues to be a major problem in our community; and WHEREAS, studies continue to show that children are beginning to use tobacco, drink alcohol, and use other drugs at an earlier age; and WHEREAS, students should be encouraged and supported in their efforts to say "NO" to drugs and to deal more effectively with peer pressure; and WHEREAS, youth are learning how to say "NO" and are becoming more involved in positive activities through participating in "Just Say NO" and Youth Power Clubs; and WHEREAS, the Redding City Council encourages students to make a strong public commitment to remain drug free and believe that such a commitment can be made more meaningful through participating in a "Just Say NO" or Youth Power Club; and WHEREAS, the "Just Say NO" and Youth Power Clubs of Shasta County are sponsoring a Walk Against Drugs on April 6, 2001. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding does hereby designate the week of April 2 through April 6, 2001, as "Just Say No"/Youth Power Week and encourages participation in the 16`h Annual Walk Against Drugs on Friday, April 6, 2001.
