A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING MAY 7 AND MAY 8, 2017, AS "CALIFORNIA PEACE
OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAYS;" MAY 11, 2017, AS "SHASTA COUNTY
PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY;" AND MAY 14 THROUGH MAY 20,
2017, AS "NATIONAL POLICE WEEK" IN THE CITY OF REDDING
WHEREAS, May 7 and May 8, 2017, have been designated by the California State
Legislature as California Peace Officers' Memorial Days; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 14 through May 20, 2017, has been designated "National
Police Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, in 2016, 27 officers were killed nationwide, with 3 California officers being
killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the Redding
Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as
well as the many county, state and federal agencies that make up the law enforcement community in
Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby
proclaims May 7 and May 8, 2017, as "California Peace Officers' Memorial Days;" Thursday, May
11, 2017, as "Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial Day;" and May 14 through 20, 2017, as
"National Police Memorial Week" in the City of Redding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic
organizations to salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by attending the Shasta
County Peace Officers' Memorial, and directs that all City of Redding flags be flown at half-staff on
Thursday, May 11, 2017, in honor of the peace officers killed in the line of duty during 2016.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read, and adopted at a
regular meeting of the City Council on the 18th day of April, 2017, by the following vote:
