A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
COMMENDING THE REDDING ROADRUNNERS ROLLER HOCKEY TEAM
AS THE 2002 NORTH AMERICAN ROLLER HOCKEY CHAMPIONS •
WHEREAS,the Redding Roadrunners Hockey Club,Inc.was organized by a group of enthusiastic players
and parents in 1994 with an objective to help young people in the Redding community focus on positive activities and
live up to the club motto to"become better tomorrow than today"; and
WHEREAS, the Redding Roadrunners promote ethics, teamwork, trust, discipline and determination to
young people as a non-profit organization with limited financial support from parents and limited sponsorships; and
WHEREAS, the Redding Roadrunners have many successful accomplishments such as capturing the
prestigious"Summer Cup"(18 and under junior division)Championship in Las Vegas in 1997,and winning the Pee
Wee(14 and under) and Bantam(16 and under)Divisions at the"Bauer Cup Championships"in Anaheim; and
WHEREAS, with the arrival of its new Coach Phil Schweiger,recruited from Sacramento two years ago,
the Redding Roadrunners have become dominant in almost all divisions statewide traveling as far as Canada,Chicago,
Florida and Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, the Redding Roadrunners Roller Hockey Team is comprised of:
*Troy Kockrow, Captain *Andrew Figueroa *Andrew Grindstaff
*Zach 0/Brien, Assistant Captain *Michael Spector *Bobby Jones
*Lee Reno *Brian Cowell *Matt Van Hatta
*John Duvoisin *Rusty Young *Chris Cessna; and
WHEREAS, after nineteen months of training and over 120 games under Coach Schweiger, the Redding
Roadrunners Bantam Division brought back the biggest wins in its history becoming California State Champions in
May and National Champions in August during the largest roller hockey tournament in the world,the North American
Roller Hockey Championship where they defeated teams from Colorado,New Jersey,Great Britain and the Chula Vista
Golden Eagles in a thrilling 8-0 title game win.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding does hereby
congratulate and commend the Redding Roadrunners Roller Hockey Team as the North American Roller Hockey
Champions bringing recognition to their community,and setting a new standard in the northstate for the sport of roller
hockey.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced,read and adopted at a regular meeting
of the City Council on the 20th day of August, 2002,by the following vote:
