HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2002-040 - Spay/Neuter RESOLUTION NO. 2002- ?O A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING AMENDING ITS SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM FOR UNALTERED DOGS LICENSED IN THE CITY OF REDDING. WHEREAS, on October 2, 1996, by Resolution No. 96-188, the City Council implemented a Spay/Neuter Assistance Program for unaltered dogs licensed in the City of Redding; and WHEREAS,the first sentence in paragraph 3 ofthe Program states as follows: When sufficient money is accumulated in the Fund to finance the Program, the City Clerk shall issue to the applicant, upon request, a $20 voucher to defray the cost of sterilization of the unaltered dog for which the license was purchased; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to delete "$20" from said sentence; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby amends its Spay/Neuter Assistance Program for unaltered dogs licensed in the City of Redding, to read as follows: 1. The Program, to be administered by the City Clerk, is available to all City residents who own an unaltered dog over the age of six months, and purchase a license for that unaltered dog. A$2 surcharge will be imposed on each such license. 2. The $2 surcharge will be placed in a Spay/Neuter Assistance Fund("Fund"), administered by the City Clerk, to be used solely for the sterilization of dogs eligible for the Program. 3. When sufficient money is accumulated in the Fund to finance the Program,the City Clerk shall issue to the applicant, upon request, a voucher to defray the cost of sterilization of the unaltered dog for which the license was purchased. The voucher will be valid for 30 days, and is to be taken by the applicant to his/her veterinarian of choice, who will perform the sterilization. The veterinarian can then apply to the City for reimbursement of the voucher. )1--1 AMENDS RESOLUTION 96-188 Vouchers will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis as long as sufficient money is available in the Fund. 4. In the event the Fund is depleted,a waiting list shall be maintained by the City Clerk.
