HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2002-012 - National Mentoring Month RESOLUTION NO. 2002- )v A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING DECLARING THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2002, AS "NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH" WHEREAS, in California alone, 493,000 children are currently being mentored in some kind of mentoring program; and WHEREAS, more than 85% of those children come from troubled homes or "at risk" backgrounds; and WHEREAS,the City of Redding has more than 200 children currently being mentored in a mentoring program; and WHEREAS, in order to provide stable, adult role models for the growing number of children in need, it is imperative that we enhance public awareness of the importance and demand for qualified mentors; and WHEREAS, it is important that all Californians recognize the significance of mentoring, and the role it plays in providing a supportive, stable life for children in need; and WHEREAS, the City of Redding is declaring the month of January 2002 as "National Mentoring Month,"in order to inform the public of the great job our mentors are doing,and of the pressing need for more good adult mentors. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding proclaims the month of January 2002 as "National Mentoring Month"in the City of Redding and commends this worthy group of individuals and urges the community to support the work of mentoring.
