The Library building remained in operation until a new Shasta County Library was built in 1962, at which point the building was vacated and later demolished in 1965. Following the demolition, the site was landscaped and called Library Park; and WHEREAS, in 2007 the Redding Library was constructed on Parkview Avenue adjacent to South City Park. The proximity of a park next to a library facility has created some confusion about the location of Library Park; and WHEREAS, on December 14, 2016, the Community Services Advisory Commission deliberated the merits of a name change and recommended Carnegie Park as a preferred name recognizing the historical reference to the Carnegie Library without specific reference to a library. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby: 1. Approves the re-naming of the City park located at 1552 Placer Street from Library Park to Carnegie Park; and 2. Authorizes the Community Services Director to make necessary changes to reflect the new name. I HEREBY CERTIFY that that the foregoing resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 7th day of February, 2017, and was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote: AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: McElvain, Schreder, Sullivan, Winter, & Weaver NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None vL) ABSTAIN: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None BRENT WEAVER, Mayor ATTEST: FORM APPROVED: :I) (?..mor44)61 PAMELA MIZE, City Cler BARRY E. e ALT, City ttorney
