A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF REDDING ESTABLISHING THE REDDING
POLICE DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEER RESERVE POLICE OFFICER PROGRAM
AND PROVIDING WORKERS' COMPENSATION COVERAGE FOR RESERVE
POLICE OFFICERS
WHEREAS, the City Council of City of Redding desires to establish the Volunteer Reserve
Police Officer Program within the Redding Police Department and provide Workers' Compensation
coverage for the Reserve Police Officers pursuant to the provision of Section 3363.5 of the Labor
Code; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds its best interests will be served by utilizing Reserve
Police Officers; and
WHEREAS, said Reserve Police Officers should be eligible for Workers' Compensation
coverage while on duty;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of City of Redding hereby
finds and determines:
1. That the public interest is best served by establishing the Redding Police Department
Volunteer Reserve Police Officer Program and providing Workers' Compensation
coverage for Reserve Police Officers.
2. That the volunteers described above shall be deemed to be employees for the
purposes of Division 4 Workers' Compensation and Insurance of the California Labor
Code while the person(s) actually performs volunteer services, provided that the
rights of volunteers shall be limited to those benefits set forth in the Labor Code.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 19th day of April, 2016, and was duly
adopted at said meeting by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Cadd, Schreder, Sullivan, Weaver, & McArthur
NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
ABSTAIN: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
